It has probably been a while since most of you have heard from me, but all in good reason. I of course have been extremely busy with the next major release of cacti (among other things). Here are some updates regarding this release.

First of all, things are coming along at a slow, but steady rate. A lot of the developer help that I planned on using, never really formulated (at least not towards any significant code). This means most of the design/schema/backend was left up to me, which is absolutely fine, just more time consuming. Of course I cannot take credit for the c-based poller which made its way into the CVS tree about three months back.

Like any major overhaul of a project, I have had to often had to restrain myself from adding a certain feature and instead waiting until 0.8 stabilizes a bit. All of the main points discussed in the 'cacti 0.8 Roadmap' thread have been addressed however (except maybe hierarchies). And after many, many nights of writing code things are starting to click into place and become functional. By this point most of the features are in place, but just need tweaked and tested before a release is ready. Keep in mind that I do read the feature requests/ideas in the forums, even though I may not respond to all of them. Many of those features may not make it into the 0.8 release, but are still candidates for inclusion in future releases.

Since my endless ranting can never do a few good screen shots justice, I decided to take a bunch of my current copy of cacti 0.8. Check them out and tell me what you think, but remember I am using messy data on an ever-changing interface, so keep that in mind.

I can see more or less more of the feature request. I hope 95th Pecentile doesn't misses out of this release. Excellent work

I think Ian is waiting for the next RRDTool which will actually do 95 percentile native graphing, it would be counter-productive for him to code his own 95 percentile code.

If you require 95 percentile quickly I would look at MRTG2 which has it's capabilities but requires some tweaking.

I recently finished installing and configuring Cacti on a WinXP Pro workstation. So far I'm monitoring everything EXCEPT Linux! I've got three HP switches, 3 NetWare servers (via SNMP), 6 Windows 2000 servers (via WMI). It was a bit of a challenge, but nothing that I wasn't able to overcome. I've got a Red Hat box on my DMZ that I'd like to monitor, but I need to figure out how to connect to it using SSH from a command line on WinXP.

The templates you speak of in version 0.8 will be the single biggest thing you can do to improve the configuration time. From the screenshots, it looks like you've got a winner. Any ETA on 0.8? Do you need any beta-testers in a heterogeneous environment running on a Windows platform? <g>

I would like to offer to be an early test eg alpha/beta. This is because I need to monitor a very large amount of similar equipment.
eg HP network printers, windows IT labs, windows staff computers. When you are talking a dozen or so devices with the same graph capturing requirement and same graphs then I need to use the 0.8 versions features to make it manageable.

I think you should open up a testing set that you release out a release every fornight or so until its stable enough for normal release

Sorry about my English.
I try cacti 0.8 from CVS, but cacti.sql is very old, some tables a renamed but in cacti.sql not and so on..
May anybody give me actual base for cacti 0.8??
