Need help configuring haloe / syslog.

Hello,

This is my first post, so please don't be too harsh on me...

I need some help installing and configuring syslog plugin. I'm using cacti 0.8.6i with latest haloe plugin on updated FC4. Database and tables for haloe are installed and username/password has been set correctly in cacti/plugins/haloe/config.php

I installed haloe plugin just fine. Now here is what I want to do:
- I have a few servers which send snmp traps to the host on which cacti is installed.
- traps are logged via standard unix syslog into /var/log/messages
- I would like to use haloe plugin to parse/see these messages. How would I do that?

Do I need some additional software? Unfortunately, instructions for haloe plugin are very poor in a sense of installation and configuration.

I really appreciate Mr. Wilson web page on how to set up syslog-ng and cacti haloe. Follow instructions, but be careful about paths. I wish the author of haloe would provide similar instructions with the plugin.
