It would be nice if there were an easier way to share tools/templates that we've created with other Cacti users.

What I'm envisioning (and I realize this is likely a pipedream, but I'm throwing it out in case anybody feels inspiration) is the ability to export a Host template definition, including all dependant graph/data templates, data input sources, and possibly even scripts, in one convenient little package that another user could easily import.

This would make it so that after I generate my host template for say, one of my Riverstone switches, I could bundle it up and make it available to other users who would then find it easy to add new host types to their own installation.

With the variety of different types of hosts this communities monitors, I think it would greatly expand the hardware supported "out of the box" (or pretty close) and perhaps increase its popularity.

(It would also be nice, though I'm not sure how this part would be done programmatically, if future revisions of the host template could be upgraded on other systems.)

Anyhow, food for thought... I'd like to hear if others would be interested, since I may at some point take on this project myself.

I second this one, it would be great to have exportable templates that you could package up for others or download for yourself. I was thinking two seperate templates, hosts and services. Want to monitor a Cisco PIX firewall, download the host template or if you want to monitor Sendmail, download the Service template. Would this be hard to do, i think the cacti side should be easy because everything is coming from the database, though the scripts and stuff could prove more difficult.
