Discovery not working

I downloaded the VMWare Cacti appliance and used this for a while. After thinking it would be great to have Cacti on it's own server I have installed it on Ubuntu following the instruction posted on their site. I then upgraded Cacti to the latest version and installed the Discovery plugin.

When I run the php findhosts.php -d -f I get nothing after that. Just back to the normal #

On the appliance I get:

Checking to determin if it's time to run.
Checking if user changed the start time.
Scanning has been forced.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

I have tried this with both Cactid and cmd.php and I don't get any debug or hosts showing up. Am I missing something here.
