The direction of traffic for B-1 Switch-1 to the Internet should be showing 2.9M from the Internet to the Switch-1.
I selected the switch port for that links m statistics. What could be changed to reflect the correct direction of traffic.?

'In' and 'Out' are always relative to the first node.
Which switch did you add as the first node when you created the link? It should be the switch that has the interface you picked on it. If you didn't then you need to change the order of the nodes in the NODES line in the config file. |

Howie,
Is there a referrence in the doc's for this. I do not know what you mean by first node. Maybe I built the map incorrectly. Below is the map config, and the Internet is the last node. The Watchguard does not have snmp, so i am using the switch port as the sensor, and just creating the link to the watchguard as a visual ref:

I don't know where the watchguard figures in all this, since there isn't one on your map and everything is a switch, but...

These are the lines I mean. 'In' is relative to node1182562848 (switch 10) and not Switch-1. If you picked the interface on Switch-1, then you will get the traffic shown as flowing the wrong way, because you told weathermap that. If you are using the editor, then you can rename the nodes to make this sort of thing a bit more obvious though. |

Just a Hint as I just got done rebuilding my map yesterday.
Howie programmed Weathermap to automatically provide an internal name for the Node. But you don't have to use that name. You can enter your own name in for the Internal Name, so you can enter something that will make sense to you. Just be careful you don't enter the same name twice as I'm quite sure that will blow up the map.
It makes hand editing your map config file alot easier. |

And if you do the renaming before you start creating links, then the links will have sensible names too.
Sorry about the nodenames, but there isn't really a correct thing to name them automatically. Maybe they could be shorter numbers though |

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way you programmed them. I would have done the same thing, because you obviously needed a unique name to appear each time, and doing it the way you did ensured that.
I just found yesterday when I was rebuilding my map that I didn't want to have to cross reference those numbers with nodes while I was doing all my VIA's, so I figured I'd change your names to something that made sense to me. Worked well as I reconfigured my map quickly. |

All good info, I built my first map with unique names, then made a mistake and had two nodes the same name, lol... All the links disappeared... was I surprised. So the next attempt was what you see above.
I will try again with unique names and be more careful.
Howie, the watchguard is the 'Internet', it is our firewall/router for now.
So, if I build the switch-1 first and all the other switches, then add the watchguard, i should be able to add the links using the switch-1 as the first node for the internet traffic to the internet, and it will show properly.?
Thanks |

You can add the nodes to the map in any order you like, but you must make it so that first node for each link is the one where the interface lives that you are going to pick for the TARGET. So if you are measuring traffic on the interfaces of switch-1, choose switch-1, then Internet when you make that link. |
