Hi,

I am new in cacti. I have redhat 8 box with standard configuration of mysql and apache 2.xx. All installed from rpm. I can't install cacti. The last stage of instalation failed. I can't authenticate my cactiuser. But I can connect with cactiuser and his password to mysql cacti's database.

There is nothing in apache and mysql logs.

Dose someone use cacti with redhat 8? What configuration of apahe and mysql should i use?

Best regards.

Hey Tomek,

We're going to need a few more details on where your installation failed.

You will need at least mysql, msqyl-server, php-mysql and httpd to install cacti.

Assuming "The last stage of the installation" is opening http://localhost/cacti what is the error message you get?

Can you make sure mysqld and httpd are loaded.

I'm goin to need more explicit details to help you out.

Thanks

Carl

Hi,

thanks for your replay. I have installed in my RedHat 8 box this php packages:
[tom@j23 tom]$ rpm -q -a|grep php
php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.8
asp2php-0.76.2-3
php-imap-4.2.2-8.0.8
php-devel-4.2.2-8.0.8
asp2php-gtk-0.76.2-3
php-4.2.2-8.0.8
php-snmp-4.2.2-8.0.8
php-dbg-server-2.10pl3-6

mysql packages:
[tom@j23 tom]$ rpm -q -a|grep mysql
mysqlclient9-3.23.22-6
php-mysql-4.2.2-8.0.8
mod_auth_mysql-1.11-10
mysql-devel-3.23.56-1.80
mysql-3.23.56-1.80
mysql-server-3.23.56-1.80

and apache:
[tom@j23 tom]$ rpm -q -a|grep httpd
httpd-manual-2.0.40-11.5
httpd-2.0.40-11.5
redhat-config-httpd-1.0.1-13
httpd-devel-2.0.40-11.5

Of course mysql and httpd are loaded. Cacti is connecting to mysql deamon. I know it becouse when I shut down mysqld server on cacti login page appeare some errors.

My cacti user name is cacti and password "pass". When I try to login (perform lat stage of installation) cacti says Invalid User Name/Password.

But I can connect to mysql server as the cacti user and his password. I connect using mysqlshow.

Before you go on with RH 8 one info may be interesting for you. Default php-snmp rpm in RH 8 is broken (and have never been corrected as far as I know). This causes built-in snmp support in php does not work. You can read some more here: http://www.raxnet.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=1061

Hey tomek,

This may be silly. If you are trying to log into the initial web page to follow the web based installation instructions, the username is admin, and the password admin, and has no correlation to mysql.

You should then be prompted to change the admin password.

I think this is where you are at.

Carl

NB: raX/others: FAQ: How to manually change the password for the admin user? I managed to forget the password for my test installation.

This was silly. The login was admin and the password was admin. Thanks!
