So I have just started adding MACTrack to my cacti installation, and I have to ask: is there an easier way to add devices other than via. the Cacti console?
I really don't like the fact that I have to have double-entry for all of my network devices, once in Cacti, once in MACTrack. Can't MACTrack use the data (i.e. name, description, community string, etc.) that Cacti already has in its database?
At the moment, I have 15 devices in MACTrack and 173 in Cacti -- most of which are network devices that belong in MACTrack. I really don't want to spend the next few days trying to enter all of them via. the web interface, as I was able to bulk-add them to cacti with add_device.php and friends.
Any thoughts? |

Currently there is CSV export. I had, at one point thought of integrating directly, but choose against it in the end. This was all written before the Plugin Architecture was born.
Now, I no longer support networks, and the interrest has faided down the list a bit. Had I started all over again, I would integrate directly and simply have a checkbox. I could still do this, but then migrating devices could be a problem.

Well, I'll think about it. First there is the 0.8.8 to finish. Lot's to do.

Sounds like I should whip something up then. After all, it only took me about 30 minutes to put a script together yesterday that pulls our ethers data out of LDAP and marks all of those hosts as authorized.
If there is interest in that I can post it. |

Ok, I think I'm going to put something together that will allow me to specify a host template and have it put all devices in that template into MacTrack (of course, I have to come up with some way to limit devices by site as well, probably with a regexp on the hostnames).
As as sanity check, is it a true statement that all I have to do to add a device is to set the following values in mac_track_devices: device_id, site_id, hostname, device_name, notes, scan_type, snmp_readstring, snmp_readstrings, snmp_version, snmp_port, snmp_timeout, snmp_retries, user_name, user_password, ignorePorts, and disabled? That appears to be what mactrack_devices.php does when a device is added via. the web interface if I am reading the code correctly.. |
