Finding a working maintainable postfix/amavis template

Hi folks,

I've been looking through these forums trying to understand the examples of monitoring postfix & amavis. I found these ones:

but i couldn't work out which were the recommended/best/known working templates & scripts.

Also, as far as i could tell, all of the solutions required patching mailgraph and in some cases adding a cron script which assumes the cacti server and the mailgraph server are the same machine. Neither of these is workable for me.

Since mailgraph already maintains its own rrd files, couldn't snmpd execute a script to directly return the latest rrd sample values (possibly with some format massaging)? I'm a beginner when it comes to cacti & customising snmpd, so please tell me if i'm off the planet in thinking this.
