Thanks for the quick reply.

Starting from the Console: Import/Export -- Browse -- (location of 6500 switch template) -- save

I get the following feedback:
Code:

 Cacti has imported the following items:

 Round Robin Archive
 [success] Daily (5 Minute Average) [update]
 [success] Weekly (30 Minute Average) [update]
 [success] Monthly (2 Hour Average) [update]
 [success] Yearly (1 Day Average) [update]

 GPRINT Preset
 [success] Normal [update]
 [success] Exact Numbers [update]

 Data Input Method
 [success] Get SNMP Data [update]

 Data Template
 [success] Cisco Router - 5 Minute Memory Free [update]
 [success] Cisco Router - 5 Minute Memory Used [update]
 [success] Cisco Catalyst - 5 Minute CPU [update]

 Graph Template
 [success] 2 Cisco - Memory Usage [update]
 [success] 1 Cisco Catalyst - CPU Usage [update]

 Host Template
 [success] Cisco - 6500 [update]

---------------------------------------------------------------
Should this be everything needed for the template to pull data?

Just to make sure I'm not missing any variables, I go to Data Templates and have tried to replace the SNMPcommunity variable along with the SNMP IP address variable.

I still get notta nothing

Should I verfiy the MIB?

No. Importing Templates was ok, changing them was not that good of an idea Please re-create or re-import.
You'll have to apply the Graph Template/Data Query to a host, as usual. Then "Create Graphs for this Host", select the new ones and go

Starting from scratch here is the process I take to add the template:

1) Import/Export 6500-template
2) Go to Data Templates to verify new templates - (I see the new templates)
3) Go to Host Templates and see Cisco 6500
4) Within Cisco 6500 Host Template I have:
Associated Graph Templates
* 1 Cisco - CPU Usage
* 2 Cisco - Memory Usage
* 3 Cisco - Temperature
* 4 Cisco Catalyst - Sys Traffic Usage Peak

Associated Data Queries
* SNMP - Interface Statistics
5) Go to Graph Templates to verfiy new templates. I see these new graphs
* 1 Cisco - Memory Usage
* 2 Cisco - Temperature
* 3 Cisco Catalyst - Sys Traffic Usage Peak
6) Go to Devices
7) Select my 6500 Switch, which is currently receiving interface statistics
Add the following to Associated Graph Templates
* 1 Cisco - CPU Usage
* 2 Cisco - Memory Usage
* 3 Cisco - Temperature
9) Verify Associated Data Queries within Devices. I get the following:
* SNMP - Get Processor Information Success [0 Items, 0 Rows] * SNMP - Interface Statistics Success [2905 Items, 363 Rows]
10) Select Create Graphs For this Host
11) Check the check boxes for the following:
* Create: 1 Cisco - CPU Usage
* Create: 2 Cisco - Memory Usage
* Create: 3 Cisco - Temperature
* Create: 4 Cisco Catalyst - Sys Traffic Usage Peak
12) After creation I get the following feedback:
Code:

+ Created graph: 6513 Switch - CPU Usage
+ Created graph: 6513 Switch - Memory Usage
+ Created graph: 6513 Switch - Temperature
+ Created graph: 6513 Switch - Sys Traffic Usage Peak

13) Move to Data Sources to verify the graphs are active. The following new graphs are shown as active with Data Input Method - Get SNMP Data:
* 6513 Switch - 5 Minute CPU
* 6513 Switch - 5 Minute Memory Free
* 6513 Switch - 5 Minute Memory Used
* 6513 Switch - 5 Minute Temperature
* 6513 Switch - Systraffic Peak
* 6513 Switch - Temperature Threshold
14) Go to Graph Trees
15) Add new Header - Cisco Health
16) Add the following new graphs to Cisco Health header
6513 Switch - CPU Usage
6513 Switch - Memory Usage
6513 Switch - Sys Traffic Usage Peak
6513 Switch - Temperature
17) Go to Graph Management to verify new graphs (new graphs seen)
1 Hopefully enjoy my new graphs of CPU, Memory, Temperature, and Traffic.
19)Go to Graphs to view new graphs

I get the graphs, but no data

Where is my flaw?

It's been awhile and I'm still not getting these stats, but would really really like to. Any ideas? Possibly as far as me not enabling the snmp's on the correct interface of the switch?

So....everything is working for me with the exception of temp - anyone have the OID for that?

<I haven't found one that works for this switch on Cisco's site or searching the SNMP walk>

Also, isn't there an OID for *current* backplane load/traffic? This template appears to be looking at the last high load - or, highest load since counters were last cleared.

What about 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.1.8 ??

I have seen previous posts that talk about the problem with Catalyst and capturing the ifAlias.

Has anyone created a Cacti template that can pull the ifAlias field into Cacti (using the module and port numbers)?

Thanks.

I'm noticing that people are discussing problems getting interface descriptions when running CatOS.

But I'm running IOS, and I have interface descriptions.
And not seeing them reflected in graphs using this template.

Is ifAlias in CatOS the same thing as interface description in IOS??

If so, how do I get my graphs to use the interface description in the graph title??

because it sounds like it should work, at least in IOS.

Go to Graph Management, select the device you want to add the interface description. click on the interface you want to add it.

On the title field you add something like - |query_ifAlias| I.E it should look like:

Code:
|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName| - |query_ifAlias|

I thought I would check in on this.

Has anyone come up with a way to automatically find the Port's name with SNMP or Cacti?

Within CatOS, I set the name using 'set port name <mod/port> <name>. I can't figure out how to get the <name> value via SNMP/Cacti.

THe cisco 3560 uses IOS not CatOS. So the standard Cisco Host template working out of the box, you don't need this template.

Answering my own question.

From what I've read in these forums, it is very difficult to automatically determine the Port's name, because CatOS stores this information in a strange way.

Since CatOS is falling out of favor, I doubt this feature will ever be available.
