Hey everyone, been a cacti user for about 5 months now - awsome work guys !!
I searched the net for hours looking for a way to monitor qmail on my servers.. Not too much information to be found other than qmailmrtg. after searching for OIDs or MIBs, I happend to come across exactly what I needed for remote qmail monitoring. I have created templates that can be imported to cacti.
Input is greatly appreciated on this template..

I did a bit of work with this too, and wrote it up on my site (in the sig). Hrm. I should finish that writeup I'll dig out the other OIDs I used soon. It works the same way as it sounds like yours does though (net-snmp & qmailmrtg7), so I doubt that it's news anyway.

| How did you configure net-snmp to integrate with qmailmrtg? I haven't had much luck using net-snmp's new extend function.

Is there anything else that needs to be done other than installing the xml file? I just tried running this via command line and here is what I'm getting:
| Code: | # php poller.php
Waiting on 1/1 pollers.

stevewest15,
My appologies, I checked into this further and it seems that one of our sys admins did in fact install the package..
Howie's site:
http://wotsit.thingy.com/haj/cacti/cacti-qmail.html
Follow the directions on this site and it will all work.

I'll try and finish that page this week, and add in the rest of the OIDs and an XML file for our setup.

Actualy does anyone have working template for qmail ?
i found several templates here, most of them are not working anymore.
Some of them still sugges usa of exec , wihle it has been replaced.
Other templates contain mibs instead of OIDs... didnt exactly got, why do we have templates with mibs, while Cacti use OIDs... has to be some historical thing.
So my question is simple.... does anyone around have WORKING template for monitoring qmail with list of all lines needed for snmpd.conf ?
Or do i have to be an snmp guru to get a clue, where to obtain all those lovely OIDs to get data out of snmp and not just SMTPd concurency ?
thanks for any advice

| exec might be deprecated, but it still works. I'm still using the qmail templates I posted OK.

What if I didn't install Qmail using the lifewithqmail install instructions? Can I simply change the paths within my snmpd.conf and import the template? I'll give it a shot. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

| Yes. I still use the 'extend'-based templates I made a few years ago. I have never used LWQ for an install, so I know it works otherwise. You just need to point the scripts at your log files as appropriate.

I've followed Howie's instructions - I'm getting Cacti graphs, but with no data!
What can I do next to troubleshoot?
My questions are:
1) I've installed qmailmrtg7 by doing a make and then a make install, no errors. Am I supposed to setup a cron job after?
2) I've made sure the paths are correct in my snmpd.conf, but I'm not sure what else I need to do?
3) The directories didn't exist for dnscache-stats, so I just created them, created the shell script, is there anything further I need to do here?
Here's my snmpd.conf - I put the following lines under Access Control in my snmpd.conf:
| Code: | extend qmail-message-status /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 s /var/log/send
extend qmail-bytes-transfer /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 b /var/log/send
extend qmail-smtp-concurrency /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 t /var/log/smtpd
extend qmail-smtp-sessions /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 a /var/log/smtpd
extend qmail-pop3-concurrency /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 t /var/log/pop3d
extend qmail-pop3-sessions /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 a /var/log/pop3d
extend qmail-queue /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 q /var/qmail/queue
extend qmail-messages /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 m /var/log/send
extend qmail-concurrency /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 c /var/log/send
extend qmail-virus /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 C /var/log/clamd
extend qmail-spam /usr/local/bin/qmailmrtg7 S /var/log/spamd
extend dnscache /usr/local/bin/dnscache-stats
