As I posted before and refered to in my first post here is what I am using

Cacti Version: 0.8.7b
Httpd (apache) Version: 2.0.52
MySql Version: 4.0.21
Net-SNMP Version: 5.1.2
PHP Version: 4.3.8
RRDtool Version: 1.2.23
Linux: Red Hat 4

I followed the Linux Comprehesive Installation Guide, I can't stress enough how new to all this I am, so I follwed the installation guide step by step and it is probably out of date, but I couldn't figure it out any other way. Just let me know what to install or upgrade too, I would really appreciate it!

So I've tried to download a new version of PHP 5.2.6 and I unzipped it, changed directories, configured, make ,make test (which it told me to then said it had errors) and now I tried make install and got an error:
Installing PHP SAPI module: apache2handler
/www/build/instdso.sh SH_LIBTOOL='/www/build/libtool' libphp5.la /www/modules
/www/build/libtool --mode=install cp libphp5.la /www/modules/
cp .libs/libphp5.lai /www/modules/libphp5.la
cp .libs/libphp5.a /www/modules/libphp5.a
chmod 644 /www/modules/libphp5.a
ranlib /www/modules/libphp5.a
libtool: install: warning: remember to run `libtool --finish /cacti-install/php-5.2.6/libs'
Warning! dlname not found in /www/modules/libphp5.la.
Assuming installing a .so rather than a libtool archive.
chmod 755 /www/modules/libphp5.so
chmod: cannot access `/www/modules/libphp5.so': No such file or directory

The linux install guide you followed looks a bit outdated as far as software versioning. I was going to recommend that you try upgrading to more recent software revisions.
That error you received is probably because apache doesn't have the libphp5 module loaded.

Sure is....this is extremely annoying...should I update all the other dependencies just to get it out of the way? Or is there an easy way to remove all of them and just start over from scratch? What way do you think would be easiest, and less likely to make a mistake.

If I start over from the begining, but with newer versions, would i still be able to follow the directions in the Linux Comprehensive Installation Guide, as per the ./config and stuff, or is that all version specific?

Also, what versions should I be looking for for to go with Cacit-0.8.7b
Cacti Version: 0.8.7b
Httpd (apache) Version: 2.0.52
MySql Version: 4.0.21
Net-SNMP Version: 5.1.2
PHP Version: 4.3.8
RRDtool Version: 1.2.23
Linux: Red Hat 4

any suggestions???

Thanks so much for all your help!!!

At this point I think you should go with whatever you are more comfortable with given your skill sets. Have you ever tried to upgrade multiple packages that depend on each other before?

No, I wouldn't be so clueless, but my supervisor is on vacation this week so I'm left alone to figure everything out.

That does seem like a good idea though.

As far as versions, I would go with at least.

apache 2.2
mysql 5.1
net-snmp 5.4.1
php 5.2.4
rrdtool 1.2.x

You might also want to reference the Installation guide for Unix/Linux.
good luck.

Does cacti has ability to use |query_ifSpeed| substitution for upper_limit graph variable?

Please help me out with this.

Thanks a lot.
