|

Hello --
I just got Cacti setup and working with default installation under Ubuntu 7.04.
I have 5 ESX 3 servers at work that I would like to begin capturing graph data outside of VirtualCenter.
Does anyone have a checklist or the like that will guide me in the steps necessary to get this working?
Any help would be appreciated. |

sceptand,
I have a question, can i just use the XML and sh files as they are. Import them into Cacti and put the script file in the scripts directory and be on my way? The instructions are for Op5, which is based on Cacti i know, but what changes need to be made to make this work on cacti, or will they work as is?

I have only used op Statistics so I'm not 100% sure. But I think the only difference when it comes to this topic is the paths.
In the xml templates and in the script some paths are used, change them to the paths you have in your environment.
Start with the check_esx plugin, it requires vmware perl modules. A howto can be found at http://www.op5.com/support/technical-information/how-to/369-installing-vmware-perl-api
I know the requirements for the guide says op5 monitor but I think you will make it work if you have some experience with perl.
Second step is to make the esxiograph.sh script work. There are two paths in there, change them to match your environment.
Third is to check the xml templates. I cannot find any paths in them.
Or the easiest, buy op5:-) Get support and a smooth update with yum update.
If you want to test op5 solutions there is trials as vmware images of all products which works perfectly well, the only blocker is that you cannot patch it with yum update.
op5 Statistics, based on cacti: http://www.op5.com/op5/products/statistics
op5 Monitor, based on Nagios: http://www.op5.com/op5/products/monitor
op5 Logserver, based on syslog-ng: http://www.op5.com/op5/products/logserver
The trials as vmware images or installable packages on top of CentOS 5 or RHEL: https://shop.op5.com/free-trial-versions-c-13.html?language=en
