I have a server we took down to rebuild. I get email about it being down numerous times throughout the day. I get emailed at random intervals. I told cacti to not monitor the host and I still get emails about it. My previous cacati installs did not do this. This is a rebuilt cacti server. The device status in cacti changes to "Recovering" then a minute or two later I get an email saying, "host error: hostname is down".

Any ideas why I keep getting emails?

More information needed - were you monitoring this host using snmp or any form of ping ?

If it was ping, chances are that cacti detects a response to a particular IP Address ?

Possibly not much use, and a bit of a "shot in the dark", but might be of some help.
