Hey Ian, guys,

here i am back on cacti, new company, doing it all over again from scratch. Anyways, i decided i'd try running
cacti-0.8.6-pre20040706, and i've run into a few problems.

all the dependencies are met, rrdtool, mysql etc.

problem with tree.php :

i can add or modify top parents. i can remove the default, rename it, add another one, all of them show up directly in the mysql db in the proper columns.

If in graph tree, i try to go into default ( or any other) and try to add anything, host, header or graph, and try to save, it gives a non verbose error, save failed.

problem does not exist on the same machine with my 0.8.5a install. ( yes i know the tree.php's are vastly different)

problem at graph creation.
i can add devices. snmp polling is working fine, create the graphs.
so far so good.

when i debug the graph creation process, there is an missing argument for the create function for rrdtool being sent by ../cacti/lib/rrd.php

no rra's are being created because of this, which of course breaks the adding of new devices. i have not tested wether the rest works without those parts as i don't have existing polling graphs and devices.

cactid is working on my 0.8.5a as well.

this machine is in a lab right now, running a fresh RH9 install.
running mysql 4.0.20 from the rpm's on the mysql website.
all other packages are the standard redhat rpm's from the install cd's.

let me know if theres any specific debug info you want.

Morgan,

I am not sure that 0.8.6 is quite ready for prime time. We do appreciate you input however. If you want to continue debugging in a NON-PRODUCTION environment, you should obtain a Mantis ID and submit your bugs there. Thanks again.

Morgan,

There are a number of database changes in 0.8.6. One of the changes is to allow the adding of more items to a single tree. This requires some database restructuring work that, I think, you will have to manually incorporate into your environment at the current time.

I just looked at the CVS and Ian has appeared to complete the upgrade script from 0.8.5a to 0.8.6. You will need to run that script either manually or through the upgrade process. It is located in ../install/0_8_5a_to_0_8_6.php.

I had the same problem and executing the script should correct you Tree problem. Before Ian had completed the upgrade script it was quite a chore though. I am not 100% sure, but if you simply change your version in config.php to 0.8.6, the upgrade script should execute.

Mantis is where Ian is keeping featue requests and bug tracking. It can be reached at: http://bugs.cacti.net/view_all_bug_page.php

I would say it's much better to be a "pain in the ass" than simply an "ass". The former is much preferred because it means you care...

Morgan,

One more thing, I corrected the RRA problem today. You can get the corrected lib/rrd.php from the cvs or wait and redownload the entire package tomorrow.

TW,

i got a mantis account now.
A for the update script, i wasn't trying to update as it was a clean box, i jut wanted to slap 0.8.6 on it.

anyways, i have a 0.8.5a running right now still in the lab, as soon as i go back there ( thursday maybe) i'll try to put 0.8.6 on and see how it goes.
