Hi all
I'm new to using cacti and I've installed the 0.8.6 beta version and I'm also getting this problem.
If I go to a command prompt and run poller.php it just outputs the 'waiting on x/x pollers' message until it times out. For some reason I tried running the cmd.php in another command prompt and the 'poller' windows then completed and the graphs were created, if I didn't run cmd.php then poller just sits there doing nothing.
I'm running this on a WINXP SP2 system with Apache 2.0.50 and php5 (installed with xampp). Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it a bug in cacti or php? Is there any information you need to see to help resolve this problem?

Hello,
You problem may be caused by the schedule task which is not working properly.
Make sure you WIndows Scheduled task is working and configured appriopriately
I have on my WIndows XP settled in the Schedule task
c:\php\php.exe c:\apache2\htdocs\cacti\poller.php
Also to run the schedule task you must create a user 'ccti for instance' that can access and executes a any scripts in cacti. Give a password to this user. In the schedule task set this account with its password. The password is absolutely mandatory on WIndows XP otherwise the scheduler doesn't work.
To look at the status of the schedule task in XP go to
Control Panel / Performance & Maintenance / Schedule Tasks
Then click on the explorer menu to display a detailed view and you will be able to see if the schedule task is working or not.
I had the same pb in WIndows and I have found that the schedule task was not working because the account I have set had no password.
Also check the options of the schedule task and uncheck options like "Sopt task if excute more than ...., uncheck --> if power management, ....

Try setting up Cacti to use php-win.exe.
To do this goto Settings->Paths and change the PHP Path to be:
C:/PHP/PHP-WIN.EXE
This should fix your problem. For some reason PHP5 is wierd about that.

Thanks for the quick response.
I do have task scheduler set-up to run every five minutes and none of the settings that Didier suggests are checked. The poller task starts when it's supposed to but it does not update the graphs and just sits there with 'waiting on x/x pollers' message scrolling until it times out.
As for the other suggestion of using php-win.exe, I don't seem to have a copy of that in the php directories.  I reset my system to use php 4 and tried the poller again with the same results - no graph updates and the 'waiting on x/x pollers' message scrolling.
I'm away until next Thursday so I won't be able to try anything with this problem but when I get back I'll do a clean install with the most recent version of 0.8.6

Change logging to DEBUG and run from the command line one time. Use the following to test CMD.PHP
c:/php/php.exe <your_webroot>/cacti/cmd.php
You must specify the whole path. Post the results.

Bill,
I have posted a change on CVS. Could you please download poller.php from the main CVS directory and rerun.
Also, could you please verify that unders the PHP extensions, that php_socket.dll is being included.
Once you have done these two things, run poller.php from the command line and send me the output from stdout as well as the log. Rather, post them both.
Also, please avoid PHP 4.3.4. Both 4.3.7 and 4.3.8 appear to be ok.

I also checked that php_sockets.dll is in the php.ini file and uncommented (it is) and I'm using 4.3.8 of php for this test. The php.ini file is also in the Windows directory. Does that get you any further forward?

Bill,
You are still using an old version of the code. I can tell this by the fact that the time/date format does not include seconds. My recommendation is that you download the latest Unix beta and simply copy it over your existing installation directory. Make sure you backup your "/include/config.php" before doing so.
Then retest and let me know. Sorry to have confused you relative to the content of what you should have downloaded in the first place.

They are identical with the exception that the CACTID in the Windows version is way old.

I've finally managed to get some time to try this problem again. I reinstalled cacti (the current pre20040829 release) as a clean install on a test system (this is with php 5.0.1 - if you want me to test this with php 4 I can do that as well) and I still get the poller timing out and not updating the graphs.
