SAR , RRD Graphs , Cacti
Looks like a pretty damn cool triangle to me! Why not utilize the SAR tool outputs which is running ALREADY as Standard , happily gathering system statistics on the background (at least with Redhat boxes)
Check out command : sar -A what a nice bunch of stats to collect.
has anyone got good experiences or comments please ? |

I have been doing this with MRTG HPUX. It's not pretty, but it works fairly reliably.
I'm currently checking out RRDTool and Cacti to see how much effort is required to convert my existing configuration over. From what I've seen, it looks to be more than I expected. |

| I haven't had the time required to convert my scripts from MRTG to Cacti. Regretfully, my responsibilities have turned more toward project-related work as opposed to operations, and it doesn't look good for time freeing up to get the job done. |

Hi Folks!
I was just curious what you had in mind, as far as a basic plan for getting this info into a database for rrdtool/cacti to use.
I was thinking about trying to come up with a way to get sar info into rrdtool/cacti, and I would really like to hear what your thoughts are on how it should be done.
Cheers!
