access denied in 0.8 build april 6

I installed cacti 0.8 build from april 6 and everything went fine during the install.
I can see the daily graph which is the default view, but when I go to click on it, I get an access denied message within cacti. It is not an apache message (401,403, etc) and the apache logs do not reflect any errors.
This is even with dull admin privs. the cacti log is empty too

I guess that if I learn to be patient, the graphs can be viewed once they have been created.
