Hi!
First of all, thanks for a truly great software!! I'm really looking forward to see how the Spine project evolves (I also have a problem with the ammount of devices/OIDs beeing questioned).
Now to my thoughts
* Hierarchy for data sources.
It's a damn long list :-/
* Hierarchy for graphs.
Maybe you could combine the Graphs menue,
with the Graph Hierarchy?
* Duplicate option
To make things easier when duplicating
datasources, how about moving the user into
the duplicated object? That way you can start
editing the Name and other settings...
Hmmm, well thats my thoughts right now. And again, this product is damn good . We use it combined with SNMP4W2K so we can monitor our Win2K servers...
Cheers

I'm glad you find cacti useful. Are you actualy using cacti on a win32 platform, or are you just monitoring win2k boxes? I would be interested to hear from people that are actually deploying cacti on win32 (now that it works with win32).
Sometime in the next few versions I will impliment a "next"/"previous" paging system for the screens that tend to get rather long. I will probably allow the user to filter the content being shown.
Combining the graph hierarchy with the graph edit view is a good idea, but would not work well in practice. This is mainly because cacti now supports multiple hierarchies and allows graphs to be added to a hierarchy multiple times. This would make editing graphs on a hierarchy odd. I suppose I could put an "edit" link next to each graph on the tree though which would serve the same general purpose.
I am looking forward to see where spine goes too. This would extend cacti's functionality extremely. I also really appriciate the effort people are putting this (jwiegley).
I never thought about taking the user directly to the edit screen of the new object when duplicating. This does make sense though, and I may impliment such a feature. If I do this however, it will be a configurable option since some would not want it this way.
Thanks for the input,
-Ian |

Hi!
I have some feature request.
I think it would be nice to see at the top of every host's graph page its:
system.sysDescr.0
system.sysUpTime.0system.sysContact.0
system.sysName.0
system.sysLocation.0
