Larry,

when you are poking around in MACTrack, here is something that I believe would be worthwhile.

Create an mactrack_aggregate table that keeps track of summary data. that would let you track the actual utilization of your switch for more than the detial period. I currently keep a month worth of detail data on my switches just so I can see if a port was really used. I also modified the report so when you hit "all", it only prints the summary out instead of all of the detail records.

Regards,

Willie

Willie,

Send it along to me. I have added sorting and a few other tweaks and am close to the first official release.

Larry,

I have attached the modified view. The place to look for is the function mactrack_view_macs. If the row to show = 1, I added a different count to only count the rowns that the aggregation will use (look for the /* wcm mod */.
Same with the mactrack_view_get_mac_records function. I add to the gorup by clause to only show the aggregation of records instead of "all of the detail". It lets me track what was actually on the port without having to see each record from every time the poller has run.

the next step to that would be to create an aggregation table so you could keep less detail records but still get the aggregation report. Sometimes, a port is only used once every 2 or 3 months. But it is nice to be able to come back to the report in 6 months and see that someone has actually been at that location instead of thinking that it is a purely vacant location.

thanks for considering my requests!

Regards,

Willie

Willie,

I reviewed your code as I a preparing for a new release of MacTrack and the select criteria you are using makes no sense. So, we should talk about this a bit. I also would like to see your other mods as I will incorporate into the main product. PM me if you like.

Larry
