Hey all, I took inspiration from bpowers7 who did a RHES4 Cacti installation from start to finish (http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=13193) and spent some time documenting the installation of a Cacti system from scratch using Fedora Core 7 all with packages and Yum. Unfortunately it's at a bad time because the document is based on Cacti 0.8.6j (because that's the latest one still available on the Fedora Core Yum distribution servers). But I hope some find it useful.

I'll try and keep it up to date, but it's huge! I'm looking for comments, content suggestion changes, spelling errors .

Thanks.

You're welcome, hopefully it works okay for you. Now that Fedora Core 8 is out and Cacti 0.8.7 is on the Fedora Yum repositories I'll be making an updated document the them shortly.

I will analyze your document. In case I find it useful, would it be possible to have the raw data formatted as an SGML document? It the would be integrated into plain cacti documentation at least starting with the next release.
To be honest, I lately ported a Windows Installattion instruction from html to SGML. Took me a whole day of hard work.

I'm glad you liked the document. It took me a bit of time to get it polished.

I haven't ported documents to SGML. I made it in OpenOffice and modified some of the images in Gimp. I'll take a look in OpenOffice to see if there is an easy way to do it. But if you get tired of waiting for me I've ZIPed up the OpenOffice document and the raw images I used and posted them here for ya.

As an FYI, I'm working on a Fedora Core 8 version of this document too.

What about posting it to the documentation site as a pdf in the meantime?

I created an account on the documentation site but I'm unable to post anything. I'm probably doing something wrong, or the security is set such that new accounts cannot post (which makes sense).
