When adding a new device to Cacti that has more than interface traffic statistics...I might have a temperature, signal level, data rate or some other values I want to track.

I have always added the host using the host template "Generic SNMP-enabled Host" let Cacti build a list of interfaces, I hand select the interfaces that actually are useful to graph...then edit the host and change the host template to a host template I made that picks up the temperature, signal level, data rate, etc.

I am sure there is an easier way to put these two host groups together in some better way so you can add a new host, pick the host template that has all the pieces you need to graph and have all the graphs be created quickly, accurately. and easily.

Or is there a way to take an existing host I have and take the list of graphs and clone that into a host template?

I am running 0.8.7i on Linux. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

You can create as many host templates as you like and add the data Queries and Graph Templates you need.

Thanks for your reply.

I can associate the generic SNMP interface to the host template...but I still need to remember which interfaces for a particular type of device are meaningful.

For example is there a way to have specific interfaces to be associated with a host template?

Or do I need to manually look up the OIDs for each interface that matters and build a data query for those manually in order to associate it with a host template?

Hi,

that's not really what host templates are for.

have a look at http://docs.cacti.net/plugin:autom8 to create graphs for specific interfaces, you can do this based on description, interface type etc...
