Strange screen issue experienced after upgrading from 0.8.8h to cacti 1.0 on Ubuntu.

Failed to mention in the video, that during the blank screens and the login looping, there are no errors generated.
Error logs for cacti, apache, and mysql show no indications of any problems.

The poller continues to gather data in the background without error, I am just unable to view any of the graphs.

Video demonstrating issue.... https://youtu.be/XZmuvUKVrj0

EDIT: Changed title for better accuracy.

Check your browsers javascript console log. Since most of the display is javascript now, there may be an error in there.

The only JS 'error' i get is...

"Synchronous XMLHttpRequest on the main thread is deprecated because of its detrimental effects to the end user’s experience. For more help http://xhr.spec.whatwg.org/" pace.js

but every tab resulting in a blank pages gives me...

"Password fields present on an insecure (http://) page. This is a security risk that allows user login credentials to be stolen."

listed under 'Security' which sound like it is asking for a password (like in my example of the Graphs tab) but I cannot see it.

and now the Graphs tab is displaying this....

Edit /etc/php.ini and set error_log = /tmp/php_errors.log, and restart apache, try again. Post that error log and the page source here.

I will get those logs shortly.. might be a challenge via remote...

I just noticed in my example, when selecting one of my devices,
the page title is 'Console -> Devices' and link I am clicking is...

"http://www._______.org/cacti/host.php?action=edit&id=22"

When the blank screen comes up, the page title is 'Login to Cacti'
So it is somehow losing the session and reverting back to a login page?

EDIT: From my remote location, I do not get the errors displayed in the above screenshot.
I only get the looping login prompt, as in my video. No error log is generated.

More EDIT: I just tried viewing the Cacti Log via the tab at the top of the screen.
The log appears on the screen (no errors) and after several seconds, when the page attempts to auto-refreshe, it presents a login prompt in the frame instead.

Tried everything I could, but could not reproduce whatever generated that screenshot.
Some non-related tinkering generated some php errors, so I know that I have it setup correctly to log errors.
Whatever Cacti is doing, it does not produce any...

It just keeps asking for login information every time I try to change tabs.

I really miss my graphs. Going to have to revert to 0.8.8h.

Are you using database sessions? Did you migrate your config.php from the old server, or are using using a clean one. Post your config.php. A few things can happens that are causing the sessions to be dropped, they include an out of date config.php with a session variable that includes dot's. This was a bug fixed a while ago. Let us know what you have in that config.php.

I used a fresh config.php that came with 1.0, and only changed the database name. username and password lines.
The only other non-commented lines are these...

$poller_id = 1;
$url_path = '/cacti/';
$cacti_session_name = 'Cacti';
$cacti_db_session = true;

Try setting $cacti_db_session=false, and review your php.ini file for this setting: session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440. You should keep it from between 1/2 hour to an hour.

Made the suggested changes, and now when I reinstall cacti-1.0, after i login, i get the console with nothing in the main window nomatter what tab or sidebar menu i choose. Closing the session and attempting to re-login takes me to the Installation page again.

I actually ran into the same issue after turning off cacti_db_session, and the Cacti log was showing lots of errors such as this:

ERROR PHP WARNING: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (c:\PHP\Session) in file: Unknown on line: 0

Now, that directory exists and the session data was saving correctly on my 0.8.8 install, so I checked permissions (running Windows server) and I had moved the PHP directory to try another version and the IUSR and IIS_USERS users didn't have R/W permissions to the php/sessions directory anymore. After enabling this, it looks like subpages are working OK.

So: Ensure you have session.save_path configured in your php.ini and the web user has R/W access to the directory specified in this setting. Then set cacti_db_session to false in config.php.
