Hard to give details from scratch. Been a long time since I've done it - but, catch me on AOL IM (kkinderen) and we can try and walk through it. Otherwise, you can email me at [email protected] with what you've done so far and I'll try to help from there.

32 bit vs. 64 bit counters

I was having a problem with gaps (actually dips) in one of my graphs happening around peak usage periods. I found no errors in Cacti so I called my provider to take a look. He showed me graphs he was collecting for the exact same period with no dips. Difference was, he was using 64 bit counters wher...

aphyr: I intended this particular example to be the simplest method of using a script to create a graph. I could try to work on others - but I'm figuring this out as I go along. Maybe someone can help expand? rax: I've updated and simplified the HOWTO, removing things about templates. I did this kee...

An .rrd file is just data. I think you would use something like rrdtool graph to produce your picture. That's how cacti does it. Check out http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/manual/rrdgraph.html Example rrdtool graph boston.png \ --imgformat=PNG\ --title="Boston Traffic" \ DEF:a=bost...

Getting rping.pl Output into Cacti 0.8.4

I'd llike to make use of the rping.pl script: rping.pl -csecret router.company.net www.yahoo.com The output is: Initializing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to send ping probes.... community(RW): secret, wait_time: 2s, timeout: 1000ms, probe_gap: 3ms, # of pings: 5, packet_size: 64bytes Setting ping probe attribute...

I'm interested in getting this running for 6 routers but have a couple (3) of problems. 1) Seems this was done on an earlier version of Cacti. There is no place for Output String in the Data Input Method. 2) On the input string, I can't add anything after the -d. Says it's an invalid URL. Do I have ...

Take a look in the cacti home directory /log/. You should find rrd.lot.

Go to settings:genera; and you'll find a list of log items that can be enabled.

Another thing to try is to run php cmd.php and check the output.

You might also try your httpd error_log.

To see the data that's collected try:

rrdtool fetch /var/www/html/rra/su5_ap_cooplabs_net_rssi_from_su_62.rrd AVERAGE

You could also get info on how the rra is structured by:

rrdtool info /var/www/html/rra/su5_ap_cooplabs_net_rssi_from_su_62.rrd

Ziekke: I've been frustrated by the same problem. I posted a message the other day with rather detailed instructions for going from an external script to a graph. Got it figured out. Add a new set of graph items they way I want them to look and then delete the old items. Not pretty, but it works.

It seems Graph Template Items in Graph Templates doesn't have the option for per-graph values. :(

Cacti for Dummies (like me)

I hope somebody just getting started with cacti (like me) will find this useful. It is the simplest instructions I could come up with to get a small taste of cacti's power. I've only been using cacti for about a week so there may be mistakes - but, it should get you from an external script through a...
