Memory Graph caveats

This is a nice graph, informative and visually appealing. However, if you are monitoring a remote system, your poller needs to be running as a user with network rights, and probably administrative ones, at that.

This is imposed by WMI, presumably on the remote end.

still Win32 problems

I applied the patches (I assume that since the directory is labelled "pre-patched", one just replaces the existing files of the same name), but I still have the same problem/behavior.

Any other diagnostic tests I can run to narrow down the suspects?

tx.

permissions on win32

well, it appears to be a permissions issue. if I try to run it from the account I have the poller running as, it comes back with that error. That said, I haven't found out where yet. I have given that account to read/execute ping, lib\ping.php, and the script_server script, but it doesn't seem to he...

Almost working...

I am running this on a Win32 Platform. When I run it from the Script Server console, per the Witness's excellent instructions, it appears to return perfectly useful and sane results. However, when it is running in Cacti itself, it doesn't appear to give me output. Running in Debug, it seems that it ...

cacti on Openbsd

Well, I got that part working. re-walked the configs, and tweaked some paths. Still not polling correctly, but that is probably also a path issue. I did everything from packages. running 4.3.8, but it seems to be fine. I may need more memory/horsepower as well. This is a system at home, so work on i...

Cacti on OpenBSD?

Hi, I am trying to get Cacti (0.8.6c) running on an OpenBSD 3.6 box. I appear to have it working mostly, except that it can't speak SNMP to anything (localhost, other devices...) I have verified that the snmpds are running, and can query them with external tools, or snmpwalk/get on this system. It s...

Sorry, should have been more specific. I was interested in the details of implementing Cacti on OpenBSD. Your timezone explanations is quite clear.

And yes my production system is Win2k3. This is more along the lines of an experiment with lighter-weight systems.(like a Kiosk)

Thanks!

cacti on Openbsd

I would appreciate the directions. It would save a lot of time re-inventing the wheel.

Thanks in advance!

Buffer Failure Template

I just successfully imported this into 0.8.6c. I had to correct the OIDs (they were missing the leading period)

I have always had to use the cut-and-paste, into the "import template as text".

Works swell. 'twould be sweller if it would show me that nice "fire effect" and (particularly) the last/average/max numbers, tho...

I suppose I could figure it out, but it looks like you already did, so I thought I could be lazy.

Thanks!

musings...

hmm... going through my nightly cleaning out of dead processes, I happened to turn on additional columns in my taskmgr, and noticed all the dead php-wins had about 1.5MB reads, and 49B writes, and similarily all the dead cactids had about 1.8M reads, and 800K writes. Not at all sure what this means,...

Working better now...

Shortening the timeouts helped some. I also changed some parameters in the my.ini, and php.ini. Of course I didn't keep track of what they were, but I bumped the key_buffer and query_cache_size variables(my.ini) to 64M, and these variables in the php.ini: max_execution_time = 120 ; Maximum execution...

re:WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: U..

Many of you have probably seen this in your logs, and indeed, there are many causes for it. I think I have discovered one case, and a fix that seems to work. In my case, I was monitoring switches with _many_ interfaces. I turned up debugging, found the OID it was trying to read, plugged it into my M...

Zombies!

I too, am having this problem. Not so bad, it doesn't seem to happen each cycle, but gradually my process table is filling with php.exe and cactid.exes. I am running w2k3, iis6, php 5.0.2 (was running 5.0.3, but per our guru's advice, dropped back to 5.0.2. Seems better, but not fixed.), mysql 4.0.2...
