TheWitness, I'm using a handmade MS-Excel solution ;) 1. write the output of `sar`to a file sar -u 3 9999999 > io_output 2. import that file in Microsoft Excel with 'spaces' as column-delimiters 3. add the polling times manually 4. create a graph.. As you see it's a pretty semi-automatic process, bu...

I/O Stats with and without 'Boost Plugin'

Hi there, I just wanted to show you some I/O statistics from our test-cacti machine. We had a big I/O issue without the 'Boost Plugin', so that one polling cycle couldn't finish before the next one started. After using the Boost Plugin we are now able to reduce the I/O massively! Thanks a lot for th...

SOLVED: cacti 0.8.7b / PA 2.0 / Boost Plugin 1.7 SVN / spine

Hi there, I installed the newest version of cacti ( 0.8.7b ) with PA 2.0 and the latest ( 18.03.08 ) SVN checkout of the Boost Plugin . To make things easy I'm just graphing the 'localhost' with the default config (load, usercount, ...) In my first test I'm not going to use the "Boost Plugin". All I...

I disabled the line with the truncate on the table poller_output in the script to see what datasources are causing the problem. Maybe the logfile in debug mode will show me what exactly goes wrong.

Ok, so it does actually the same as the script "poller_reindex_hosts.php", that can be executed on the shell 'by hand' ?
Thanks..

Reinhard, thanks for you reply. Now I know what recaching means  Do you see any connection between the drop of my recache time and my polling time? Am I right that the recaching time souldn't be a constant value as shown in my graph above ? If I got you right, this value should change all the t...

TheWitness, thanks, I replaced the line db_execute("truncate table poller_output"); with the following code like documented in post http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=18430&start=75 $rows = db_fetch_cell("SELECT count(*) FROM poller_output"); if ($rows > 0) { cacti_log("WRANING: Poller found pa...

What is a "recache event" ?

Hi there, does anybody know what a 'recache event' is ? I see a sudden drop of my 'recache time' and a drop from 12 to 0 hosts that are beeing recached. At the same time there is also a drop of the poller runtime. For me it looks like those 'recache events' are something bad :o Does anybody know whe...

I would like to show you the impact of boost plugin on my disk i/o waittime. I also attachted a graph that show my loadavg. The first part of the graph shows statistics with the boost plugin. As soon as I switched back to the regular cactid poller method without the boost plugin, the red area (i/o w...

Survey: Disk I/O statistics with perftest.pl

Hi all, the purpose of this post is the gather some information about disk i/o statistics, generated by Tobias Oetiker's (author of RRDtool) performance script called perftest. I guess it's the best way to actually simulate a cacti installation. You can download the perlscript at his site ( http://o...

packet size

hi there, after struggeling with sockets support in php and permission problems I finally got it to work. What a great script. I guess there is no more need for the fping perl-script. As we have applications running on our network with large packet size (up to 1500bytes), it would be great to enter ...
