Most distros now just load anything you have placed in the default MIBs directory (ie: /usr/share/snmp/mibs/)

But it is /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf that would need to be edited if it doesn't.

As long as SNMP is enabled on the device, there is no other requirement - unless you are graphing something that SNMP doesn't directly capture (BIND statistics, apache, etc).

Set logging to 'DEBUG' for a cycle or two (no longer) and if the error isn't apparent, post a portion of the log (not a lot of it, usually 5 or 6 lines will do).
