Templates for "APC Switched Rack PDU"

#1 Post by French_Poul » Tue May 18, 2010 9:54 am

Hello,

I have read some topics on the forum about APC equipment and templates ; but I confess I haven't understood all...

So, I would like to know, what can I supervise with Cacti on "APC Switched Rack PDU" equipement ? What information can I have with snmp on this equipment ? And with what OID ?

I hope you will understand me...

Thanks a lot in advance !

You can pull out any information of the equipment wich is stored in the MIB.

The MIB-Database (http://www.oidview.com/mibs/) will give you access to all common MIBS. Also you mostly will find the specific MIB on the vendors homepage.

The templates provided in the cacti forum are user genereated. The users pulled out the OIDs which they preferred and packed them into nice looking graphs.

If you do not want to create a whole template or only want to monitor one OID, this may help you: http://forums.cacti.net/about37056.html

Thank you for your answer Sirup!

I have looked your link, but the MIB of APC (American Power Conversion) is very big!! I have seen just 1/6 of all the MIB...!
The users pulled out the OIDs which they preferred and packed them into nice looking graphs.
Yes, I have tested one of them, but I don't know what the graph really reflect... :-?

I have no problem to create some templates :D ; but I don't know what is important to monitor in this equipment... :(

So you just want to monitor anything - for the sake of monitoring? :D

Who is reponsible for the UPS in your company? Ask him/her what would be a useful information.
In my company I monitor the current output in Ampere of every phase and in total and the total consumpion in %. (So that we know how much is capacity is still free on the UPS)

Yes, I will do that!

How can I know how many phases there are...? Do you have some OID that can help me to do something...?? :D

I just know how many phases my UPS has - because the hardware-guy told me: "The UPS has three phases and I need some information about each of them in ampere." :D

Search for rPDU - there you'll maybe find useful oids.
