Remote RRD Support...

#1 Post by mojiro » Thu Nov 23, 2006 12:58 pm

Remote RRD Support... what I mean...

What about having multiple cacti/mtrg(/whatever rrd) servers and one
weathermap that collects all RRD from lets say
... http://cacti.host.com/rra/lalalala.rrd

Is it difficult to be supported?

Weathermap 0.9 has a plugin architecture of it's own, which lets you add your own data source types (e.g. Nagios, custom database, or other network service).

rrdtool has a built-in facility to allow remote access of rrds, called rrdsrv:
see the Remote Control section of the rrdtool manpage.

I intend to add a datasource plugin that supports this 'server mode' of rrdtool. You need do need to be careful of permssions with the rrdtool remote control though - if you are not careful, it lets remote users write to .rrds too.
Weathermap 0.98 is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Hi Howie,

Was there any chance you managed to add the datasource plugin for rrdtool server mode?

I will appreciate a pointer to it if its done.

Thanks
