Goodmorning users,

My Cacti is currently running great but i was wondering if i can increase the performance of the webpage.
Sometimes it takes a minute before i get a response, after doing an action. Sometimes i can't tell if something worked or not and i have to wait pretty long for something to happen. It's a bit sporadically for my taste. Are there tips to decrease the loading times?
Using apache 2.4, cacti 1.1.36, newest mariaDB with innoDB engine and spine.

Nils

FIrst you should check if that "sometimes" is actually matching with the time the poller is running. I noticed that this can indeed interfere with the web-site performance if everything is sitting on the same box.

So, what you are saying is that if i make a remote poller, the issue would be resolved?

If you have a look at the system load times, you'll probably find that poller.php (with cmd.php and/or spine) and mysql are taking up a chunk of the processing time.

So, to speed things up you would separate out the various functions until you obtain the desired results. There are essentially three main components to cacti, the poller, the database and the website. Each can be on its own instance/server as longs as they can communicate between them. In 1.2, the remote poller would also be able to use its own database settings, thus have it's own local database.

I've checked the system performance in top, but it seems it never uses more then 50% of the time. Most below that number.

Your "wait" time seems quite high. You may have an I/O issue.

-> 15.8 % wa

The wait times are indeed very high, ramping up to 80% and in between.

Yes. I figured the VM is running on some old hard drives with slow speed. I will migrate to a new vm server asap and then watch what happens.

Thanks

Thanks for that heads up. Mine is not abysmally slow, but I do have some 15K SAS drives that I can move mine to.
