New installation (1.1.38 on Centos 7.6.1810) installed clean, all checks passed but poller.php is not running properly.

The doc that I followed to install the pre-req's and cacti did not have any directions or specific commands to create a local unix account to run the "poller.php" script. However, it does provide a command to be added to the crontab that appears to want to run as user "cacti":

*/5 * * * * cacti php /usr/share/cacti/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1

I'm sure that due to the use of root/sudo when installing everything, all of my folders and sub folders in /usr/share/cacti are currently owned by root:root (including /usr/share/cacti/rra).

Can someone help me with the following questions ...
Should I have used a non-root userid to install everything?
Should I run poller.php as a local non-root account?
If so should there be any local variables set in its .profile?
Can I fix this ... or do I have to blow it all away and start over ...?

Also, when I manually run the poller.php script as root it does create/update the .rrd files, but the default Graph that was pre-installed ("Local Linux Machine)" does not show any data. Subsequent invocations do not update these canned graphs, either.

Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

These instructions work for CentOS with LAMP stack: https://github.com/Cacti/documentation/ ... OS_LAMP.md

In your case, you have cacti as the user, rather than cactiuser. tbh, the name of the user itself matters not, just that you assign the account in question the privileges it requires.
