Hello All,
Big problem here, not sure what the issue is, the *.png files from /var/www/cacti/cache/boost
are being deleted, the boost error log is not being updated - always at 0 bytes.

I get these errors over and over again, If I turn off boost, all is well

CMDPHP PHP ERROR WARNING Backtrace: (/poller_boost.php: 198 purge_cached_png_files)(/poller_boost.php: 446 unlink)(CactiErrorHandler)(/lib/functions.php: 4585 cacti_debug_backtrace)

ERROR PHP WARNING: unlink(modern_lgi_21915_rrai_0_tsi_1_height_100_width_300_thumb.png): Permission denied in file: /var/www/cacti-1.1.38/poller_boost.php on line: 446

I have looked at line 446, and that is were the old *.png files should be (and are??) being deleted.
Boost does write png files, and seems to be deleteing them as well, the user for the cache/boost dir is apache, and the
*.png files show as owned by apache.

Any ideas on this??

Thanks,

eholz1

Likely that your system doesn't have the write user access for the poller user which is probably the one removing the files.

Thanks for quick reply.

I will try using "cacti" as the user, since my cron job uses the "cacti" user to run the poller.
Will get back and post if solved.

Thanks,

Hello Again,

I set the perms for cache, boost, and cache/boost/* to be owned and writable by
my "cacti" user. This seems to have been the solution. I am monitoring now, and so far
in the past 10 minutes, no errors.

I will get back later, after the system has run for a couple of hours.
I have a question (s): I notice the "stats" message always shows no RRDs being updated.
When I view the boost status (using Utilities) it show that something is happening.

Without boost running the graph will be full all the way across the x-axis

How do I view the graphs? It seems that the graphs do not fill?? See my image below:

thanks again,

The STATS message will show no RRD's updated until boost kicks in and updates everything.

Hello Cacit Guru, et al,

The system has been running for over 2 hours now, and seems stable.
Problem Solved. The permissions were the problem, and possibly the user.
Boost is running satisfactorly, I disabled "On Demand RRD" graphing,
and the graphs are fine.

Thanks for the input, it was a big help.
