Traffic graphing via snmpd is apparently easy, if your snmpd server is setup or is built into a router. However my problem is trying to setup snmpd to record traffic on my linux server, or a better option might be to not use snmpd like you can with mrtg-ip-acct.

Does anyone have any further assistance on this matter?

search "mrtg" at http://sourceforge.net. You'll find several non-snmp scripts which mrtg can use (and cacti, with a bit of testing) to gather various kinds of data.
