[Cacti 1.0.6] Graph template from custom SNMP get OIDs

#1 Post by jhonnyx » Sun Mar 19, 2017 6:25 pm

Hi everybody,

I would like to create a custom graph template with 3 input items and each of them has to be a data source with a custom OID manually inserted during the creation of the graph.

In earlier versions of cacti (8.8x) I could achieve such a thing by
  • creating data sources in advance for an host with "Generic OID template"
  • Create a graph with no data sources attached
  • attach the custom data sources to the graph.

In Cacti 1.0.x there is no chance to create a data source in that way and creating a data template with 3 data sources also does not work because when I try to generate a graph I have a request to insert only a single OID for all the 3 data input sources.

Now the options are :D
  • I don't know how to create custom data sources in Cacti 1.0.6
  • I didn't understand what data source inputs in data templates are meant to
  • There is a bug/design issue on having multiple SNMP Get data inputs in a single data template
Thanks everyone in advance, this is important for our monitoring.

Ok let me answer this myself

Apparently IT IS possible to add custom data sources in cacti 1.0.x , following this post and modifying the following setting:

Settings->Other Settings->Graph/Data Source Creation Method = Advanced
The default is "Simple" which disables this functionality.
Chris
Now anyway, question still remains that possibly it may be much more clean to be able to create a graph template that calls back for a multiple SNMP get data inputs with manual insertions OIDs.

Is this something possilbe? (feature request?)

You can also no longer create a graph referencing data sources from multiple devices, quite annoying that this functionality was removed.

I think that now you can achieve the same with "Aggregate" Graphs
