In our environment we have several cacti remote pollers and we use the Mirage plugin for data ingest in Splunk. (Splunk-architecture-wise, we have heavy forwarders on each remote server sending data to the indexers. This is our preferable setup so that we can properly backfill data during connection outages)
I noticed that the Mirage plugin only works on the main poller, and the log isn't written on the remote poller. This is a bit of an issue for us, depending on how the plugin writes to log. Regarding remote pollers and the Mirage plugin, I have a few questions.

When remote pollers backfill data lost during offline state, does that data also get written to the Mirage log? If so, then that's fine and we can probably deal with that.

It seems that it's impossible to install the plugin (or any plugin) on the remote poller, but that would be preferable so that we get poller data in logs at each remote site. Is there a way to override this and install Mirage on the remote pollers?

A more Mirage-specific question, do logs get written when updating RRDs or does it get written by the poller? I noticed that RRDs are only updated on the main poller, so if that's the case, then Mirage will never be able to write logs on the remote pollers. Is that true?

If you install Mirage on the remote pollers, the data would be doubled up as Mirage sends that data to your splunk server.

On the issue of data backfilling, I'd have to check how the remote poller performs their update and what mirage is looking at next week.
