I have looked around for info on this, without luck.

In cacti web gui: going to:
Configuration, then selecting the Thresholds tab, there is a check box to "enable" syslog
support.

How do I get this to work? I am using redhat, which has a "syslog" but it is called "messages"
What facility is required? I have tried all the choices (daemon, levels, etc) without success.

That option is a mystery to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

Thanks,

eholz1

Do not be confused. What some systems call /var/log/syslog, others call /var/log/messages. In truth, they are just a local log of messages which is likely populated from the real syslog service rsyslog.

When you enable syslog within thold, you must also configured the facility etc. You must also have rsyslog.conf configure to access that facility.

:D

Thanks for the info. I am using red hat 6, so the messages file is the one in question.
If makes total since to configure the information for rsyslog, etc. I will have to look into
that. I have installed syslog-ng, so now that app is hadling the logs. I will look into that
to see If I can get things going.
