Oddball problem with MariaDB

#1 Post by ARC1450 » Fri Jun 28, 2019 6:47 pm

I have a Cacti install that has been around since the .8.7 days (I think). It's been upgraded with the windows installer periodically.

Around the .8.8g days, I made a central DB and figured, why not? Let's use 1 DB server for everything. Okay, that was going well while the DB was MySQL 5.x. I decided that it was probably best to move up to MariaDB, and installed that. Everything went swimmingly, except Cacti.

About every 4 hours, my logs complain about a lost connection to the DB server with this:

Code: Select all

2019/06/25 00:47:31 - SPINE: Poller[Main Poller] FATAL: MySQL Error:'2006', Message:'MySQL server has gone away' [11, Resource temporarily unavailable] (Spine thread)

2019/06/25 00:47:31 - SPINE: Poller[Main Poller] ERROR: SQL Failed! Error:'2006', Message:'MySQL server has gone away', SQL Fragment:'SET SESSION sql_mode = (SELECT REPLACE(@@sql_mode,'STRICT_ALL_TABLES', ''))'
2019/06/25 00:47:31 - SPINE: Poller[Main Poller] ERROR: SQL Failed! Error:'2006', Message:'MySQL server has gone away', SQL Fragment:'SET SESSION sql_mode = (SELECT REPLACE(@@sql_mode,'TRADITIONAL', ''))'
2019/06/25 00:47:31 - SPINE: Poller[Main Poller] ERROR: SQL Failed! Error:'2006', Message:'MySQL server has gone away', SQL Fragment:'SET SESSION sql_mode = (SELECT REPLACE(@@sql_mode,'NO_AUTO_VALUE_ON_ZERO', ''))'
2019/06/25 00:47:31 - SPINE: Poller[Main Poller] ERROR: SQL Failed! Error:'2006', Message:'MySQL server has gone away', SQL Fragment:'SET SESSION sql_mode = (SELECT REPLACE(@@sql_mode,'ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY', ''))'

This is the mode on my SQL server:

Code: Select all

There's no need to set the SQL mode as all the STRICTS are off, so I'm wondering if I have missed something.

Cacti 1.2.3 with Spine 1.2.3 x86. . .

I had an issue where the 64-bit compiled Spine couldn't find the resources. Did a search on that and it pointed me to the x86 version.

On a side note, I apologize for the delayed answer. . .I have it set to notify me when a reply was posted, but I never got notified. :( Or gmail's spam filter didn't like the notification.

You would be better getting the 64-bit one to work ... what errors did you get compiling that? what os are you on?

It was the Spine poller bundled with BSOD's Windows installer.

I'll give that one a go again and let you know what error it was kicking back.

Oy vey.

Nevermind. I blew out my install and switched over to a Linux VM from a Windows 2012R2.

Monitoring is doing much better now on a VM with half the hardware specs while doing more.

Azure's largest deployment by OS type is Linux (for a reason). Good choice.
Before history, there was a paradise, now dust.
