***First time poster. Mods, sorry if my post is in an incorrect category and/or if I am breaking any rules, please inform me if anything needs to change here.***

Disclaimer - I'm a network engineer, not a sysadmin, my linux knowledge is somewhere between total noob and noob level :). Anything you do with this post and its files is your responsibility, I accept no liability for your use of this post and any files provided.

Consider this beta test quality material only. I would love quality feedback, if you are feeling helpful, please give instructions along with the feedback to speed along the process, remember my semi noobness to linux.

I have been playing around with Cacti/Rancid and wanted to make an install with the following criteria:
1. Fully functional Cacti install with a few base plug-ins
2. Functional WeatherMap plug-in
3. Basic Rancid install for network device config pulls/diff repository
4. Exportable/Importable OVA and OVF file format for VMWare installation

Purpose:
I am a network engineer employed at a consulting/integration firm. Most of our clients are small to small-medium sized companies who either don't have a fully staffed IT department or simply need expertise in various projects. A large percentage of our clients don't have any bandwidth monitoring, device uptime monitoring, network device config management, etc. I know there are various for pay products out there that do all these things but simply put, a large amount of our clients are either not willing or unable to fund those products based on the size of their business. At a previous company I helped monitor network and some non-network devices via Cacti, Nagios, etc. Combine the customer need with my exposure to Cacti with my interest in Linux....

Put simply, I wanted to create a small installation that I can put on any client with VMWare infrastructure (or worst case a laptop with free VMPlayer or VirtualBox, etc) to help them effectively monitor and maintain their network. Here is what I came up with.

*************************************
*************************************
==Network Monitoring Server==
ver 0.1 04-11-2014

**CentOS ver 6.5 (with desktop)
user: netmon
pass: netmon
ROOT pass: networkmonitoring

**Cacti ver 0.8.8b
http://(ServerIPAddress)/cacti
user: admin
pass: networkmonitoring

non admin user: netmon
pass: netmon

Cacti Plug-ins installed
Settings ver 0.71
Monitor ver 1.3
Realtime ver 0.5
Weathermap ver .97b
Thold ver 0.5
Syslog ver 1.22 (not configured)

**Rancid ver 2.3.8
http://(ServerIPAddress)/rancid

Rancid add-ons installed
ViewVC ver 1.1.22

**Webmin ver 1.68
http://(ServerIPAddress):10000
user: root
pass: networkmonitoring
*************************************
*************************************

I would like to make this OVA/OVF file available with basic instructions for adding new devices to cacti and rancid in hopes that it helps others and in hopes of gaining feedback on how I can make it better. I would like to eventually add netflow collector/analyzation features but need to better research before implementation.

Download
Requirements - VMWare 5.0+
Code:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BzseoeNPwBNmWkQ2M05MT1Z2ekk&usp=sharing

You can download either the .OVA stand-a-lone file or the .OVF and supporting files (.mf and .vmdk) as needed, I have tested on VMPlayer, VBox and VMWare 5.0/5.5.
The file "NMS install notes" has basic instructions on adding new devices to both cacti and rancid as well as adding basic snmp interface graphs.

Hi,

Can you put available the OVA or the OVF file again?
I need an appliance to monitoring our network.

Best Regards,

Carlos
