configurable host availability polling interval

#1 Post by giokob » Sun Aug 14, 2011 4:10 pm

cacti polls host availability during general polling process, the status is saved only in MySQL. It would be very helpful to be able to change host availability polling interval independently from other checks, for example to 1 minute or 30 seconds. it will not take much system resources and will not need any reconfiguration like in case of rra. it can be external poll process or even dedicated script.

The "raw host availability timeout" is configurable per device. What exactly do you mean? Or are you referring to some plugin?

at "Availability/Reachability" there are three parameters:
Downed device detection
ping timeout value
ping retry count

nothing more, am i missing something?

i want to configure per device how often cacti will check for availability status

Perhaps I musinderstood. The timeout governs the timeout e.g. on SNMP get when asking for downed host detection. The retry governs the number of retries for downed host detection.
The detection itself will be performed on each polling interval. This is required! Else, it may happen, that the poller waits too long for a host that is down; it would wait for "timeout" milliseconds on EACH object to be polled!

Does this match your question better?
